As one approached Sala Diaz on that warm and blustery night, you could not help but notice a uniformed city worker who was sweeping the gritty pock-marked street. Out of his mouth came the most beautiful arias in a deep baritone that seemed to float on the warm wind...

FORTUNA: 'THE PARAGON OF THE FINE ARTS' AWARD

After a speech detailing the benefits of Fortunate living, artist GORDY GRUNDY spoke of the clear vision and dedication of
a remarkable woman.

LINDA PACE graciously accepts the 'Paragon of the Fine Arts' Award for her significant contribution to the contemporary arts. As Fortuna makes it's World Debut, Pace is the very first, of what will be a distinctive few, to receive such an exclusive recognition. Well deserved.

Celebrating its Tenth Anniversary, ARTPACE has become a local landmark and an international beacon.

Then suddenly the Fortuna Tribal Drum Squad began to play. Two bonfires exploded with sparks and roared to life, perfuming the air with incense. The Wraiths of Fortuna, a contemporary dance company, began to twirl like mad dervishes. It was all sound, sight and passion. And a little alcohol.

Artist HILLS SNYDER is the curator and lifeforce of Sala Diaz. His recent show at Artpace, "Book of the Dead', beat all attendance records.

ROSEMARY KENNEDY and RYAN WHITTINGTON danced with abandon.

Swinging through town, art curator and writer Dr. FRANCES COLPITT holds court. She would not reveal the topic of her new book. Dammit.

Old pals, GORDY GRUNDY with
talented artist CHUCK RAMIREZ.

ANJALI GUPTA, editor of the highly noteworthy and execptionally smart ARTLIES Magazine, had a few laughs before she left to rescue a piece at the 'Eve of Destruction' show.

Artist ERICH RODRIGUEZ was the
Man of the Hour. He was a big
help to the Fortuna cause.

JEB STUART made the world a far better place than it ever deserves to be.

Arts writer CATHERINE WALWORTH
loved the tribal dancers.
Soul drummer JENNIFER KHOSHBIN stopped by to check the beat. She is an artist with heart.

JAMES ORDERNER spins for Fortuna. He has the smooth touch that DJ VALIHI would approve of.

We doubt she is.

Artist ETHEL SHIPTON is always sitting pretty. Admirably, she is an artist in all facets of life.

Artist MEG LANGHORNE told the adventure of her Katrina pet rescue to artist NATE CASSIE. Nate's work has recently been snapped up by Neiman-Marcus.

DON WALTON and UTAH SNYDER were causing trouble. Absolutely nothing unusual there.

All of these photos are by artist
MARC AREVALO.

Gal on the go, RACHEL COOK sent her regrets. She is the engine that drives Glass Tire.

Artist MARC AREVALO has some
wild stories to tell.

King William icon, bicycle-enthusiast and arts patron MIKE CASEY with
GORDY GRUNDY and RYAN WHITTINGTON.

In a short speech at the Award ceremony, LINDA PACE spoke of the brave few who toil for beauty. She also confessed that she never stays up this late.

Mayor PHIL HARDBERGER promised to send a representative.

Thanks to GARRETT for the jaw-droppin' CD.

CONNIE LOWE spoke of her upcoming show
in LA, while CHRIS SAUTER is getting ready for his own.
